How to Prep Your Driveway or Job Site for Dumpster Delivery
A roll-off truck needs about 60 feet of runway and clear sky. Five minutes of prep makes delivery day smooth and protects your driveway.
The truck shows up on the day you picked. Whether it can set the container where you want it depends on a few minutes of prep beforehand.
How much room a roll-off needs
Plan for a clear, reasonably flat area about 60 feet long and 10 feet wide. That covers the truck lining up and sliding the container off the back.
Before delivery day:
- Move vehicles out of the driveway and off the street in front.
- Look up. Low branches, power lines, gutters and carport roofs all get in the way when the truck tilts its bed.
- Check the ground. Soft yards after a week of rain can rut. Pavement or packed gravel is best.
- Open gates and make sure they're wide enough for the truck.
Protecting your driveway
Steel containers sit on rails. On pavers, decorative concrete or a new pour, lay plywood or boards where the rails will land. It spreads the load and prevents scuffing. Mention it when you book and we'll plan the drop around it.
Placement that makes loading easier
- Close to the work. Every extra yard between the door and the container is a trip your crew walks all day.
- Door facing the house. If the container has a walk-in door, point it toward where the debris comes from.
- Away from the A/C unit and windows, so tossing debris doesn't damage anything.
Job sites have extra moving parts
- Mark the spot with paint or cones so the driver doesn't guess.
- Keep the access path clear of material deliveries on drop day.
- If another trade's lift or truck needs the same space, schedule around it.
- On long builds, pick a spot where the truck can swap a full container for an empty one without anyone moving equipment.
Street placement
If the only option is the street, sort out a right-of-way permit first. Here's who to call in each town.
