Dumpster Permits in Greater New Orleans: Who to Call, by Town

The fastest way to stall a job is a container sitting on the street without the right paperwork. The rule of thumb is simple:

  • On your own property (driveway, yard, job site): a permit usually isn't needed.
  • On the street, sidewalk or public right-of-way: check with your local government first.

Rules, fees and lead times are set locally and they change, so always confirm with the office below before delivery day.

Who handles it, by town

Orleans Parish: the City of New Orleans, for New Orleans, New Orleans East and Algiers.

Jefferson Parish: Jefferson Parish handles the unincorporated areas: Metairie, Harvey, Marrero, River Ridge, Terrytown and Avondale. The incorporated cities run their own:

  • Kenner: the City of Kenner
  • Gretna: the City of Gretna
  • Westwego: the City of Westwego
  • Harahan: the City of Harahan

St. Bernard Parish: St. Bernard Parish, for Chalmette, Arabi, Meraux and Violet.

St. Tammany Parish: most towns handle their own streets:

  • Slidell: the City of Slidell
  • Mandeville: the City of Mandeville
  • Covington: the City of Covington
  • Madisonville: the Town of Madisonville
  • Abita Springs: the Town of Abita Springs
  • Pearl River: the Town of Pearl River
  • Lacombe and unincorporated areas: St. Tammany Parish

Plaquemines Parish: Plaquemines Parish, for Belle Chasse.

St. Charles Parish: St. Charles Parish, for Destrehan, Luling, St. Rose, Hahnville, Boutte and Norco.

St. John the Baptist Parish: St. John the Baptist Parish, for LaPlace, Reserve and Garyville.

What the permit office will usually ask

Have these ready and the call goes faster:

  1. The delivery address and the exact spot (in front of the house, alley, side street)
  2. The container size
  3. Start and end dates
  4. Your contractor or homeowner details

Keep the neighbors on your side

  • Leave sidewalks and driveways clear.
  • Keep the container off fire hydrants and out of no-parking zones.
  • Use reflectors or cones if it sits on the street overnight.
  • Book pickup as soon as the job wraps. A container that sits on the street longer than needed is the one that draws complaints.

Avoid the street altogether

Most homes and job sites have room for a roll-off if you plan for it: a flat area about 60 feet long and 10 feet wide with clear overhead space. Tell us your lot when you book and we'll go over placement with you. Find your town's page on our service area map.
